The museum‘s observation tower gives you a panoramic view of the forests and lakes of Aukštaitija region. During the tour, you will be accompanied by a guide who will tell you about the area and its main visible objects. Here you‘ll get a bird‘s-eye view of the museum’s stone monument, The Sun in Lithuania, which is a 30 metre-wide stone circle with eight rays. The largest boulders in this composition were brought from all over Lithuania. The stone rays indicate the four cardinal points as well as the sunrise and sunset directions on equinoxes and solstices in Lithuania. Encircling this stone Sun are models of the solar system planets. The project is still in progress.

The Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology is a unique architectural structure located in Lithuania‘s largest regional park, Labanoras. With woods occupying more than 80 percent of its territory, this wilderness area is home to a wide variety of animals, including elks, wolves and lynx. Here, lucky visitors can hear the calls of some rare Lithuanian bird species, such as the endangered pygmy owl or the spotted crake. On the banks of nearby lakes, one can come across the Water Lobelia (Lobelia dortmanna), a rare plant in all of Europe, as well as the endangered Slender Green Feather-Moss (Hamatocaulis vernicosus).

The hilly landscape of woods is dotted with lakes. There are a total of 285 lakes in the area, embedded between hills of varying size, and you‘ll be able to see six of them from the 30-metre-high observation tower. Weather permitting, the higher hills surrounding Lake Tauragnai in the Aukštaitija National Park can also be seen in the distance, as well as the church towers of Molėtai and Alanta towns. Binoculars are advised.

After absorbing the splendid views, don‘t miss the composition of ornamental plants created by the museum‘s artist, Marija Kakarienė, in the museum garden, which provides a serene setting for sharing your impressions.

The observation tower operates during the daytime only. Registration online or by phone (+370 383 45424) is required for either individuals or groups. The observation tower is accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who need to avoid stairs via a parking bay near the lifts.
